I want news, not whiney bias- and fear-laced opinion masquerading as “news”! Almost all of the media garbage these days is fused with inextricable opinion written with people that have an agenda that is almost always driven by financial interest.
It’s all co-mingled, and even traditional “news” media outlets use cherry-picked, story-framed clickbait tactics to pit us against each other for the capitalistic purposes. Freedom of the Press as a foundation for a well- functioning democracy as philosophically expressed by the likes of Rousseau, Locke, and Milton was based on the assumption of the pursuit of truth, not enrichment — at least not enrichment at the expense of truth. It’s the confluence of the evolution of capitalism and the rise of technology that has corrupted the system, or more accurately has corrupted US.
I’m no Marxist. Having SAID that, I remember reading Marx in college and thinking deeply about his thoughts on the eventual decline of capitalism, and thinking “well THAT never happened!” But the mechanics of his predictions were based on different assumptions than what we’re seeing today. Think for a minute about the “overproduction” of information and how this has truly made us all unwitting yet willing cogs in the machinery of profit-making. Then watch this Tik-tok.
